The PERIMETER team have uploaded the third flash demonstration of a scenario that the final system could be used for. This scenario describes a hypothetical use-case of the PERIMETER system from the user’s point of view as they tour a city using a travel application.
This scenario, entitled “Collaborative WiFi Coverage Detection and Optimisation” involves a multi access environment, and introduces inter-technological handovers and PERIMETER’s ability of make such handovers completely seamless to the user. The scenario also introduces the requirement of Quality of Experience (QoE) collection mechanisms to make the connection ideal from the user point of view.
The flash demonstration can be found on the main PERIMETER website.
This scenario movie has been produced by the Design & Usability team in TSSG-WIT.

PERIMETER mHealth Paper features in GoMo News
An article on PERIMETER and the application of the devloped technology has been picked up by the leading social media news site for the mobile industry, GoMo News.
This article relates to the PERIMETER paper entitled “Seamless Mobile Communications for mHealth” which was published in the Journal of eHealth Technology and Application in 2010.
This paper, authored by Gemma Power, Eileen Dillon and Frances Cleary Grant, examines the use of mobile devices and technologies within the PERIMETER project in providing seamless mobile communications for mHealth. In particular, PERIMETER makes use of smart phones with intelligent sensors with sensing capabilities such as GPS location, proximity and accelerometers to create a mobile wireless sensor network to ensure sensitive health related information can be transferred in a seamless and timely fashion across different selected high quality network connections.
PERIMETER Paper published in LNICST Publication
The PERIMETER paper entitled “QoE Testbed Infrastructure and Services: Enriching the End User’s Experience” has been published in the LNICST Social Informatics and Telecommunications Engineering publication, Volume 46, 2011.
This paper, authored by Frances Cleary Grant, Eileen Dillon, Gemma Power, Thomas Kaschwig, Ahmet Cihat Toker and Christian Hammerle was previously presented at the TridentCom conference in Berlin, Germany in May 2010.
Only selected papers from this conference were chosen for the LNICST publication entitled “Testbeds and Research Infrastructures. Development of Networks and Communities” and we are delighted that our paper was one of those selected for this edition.
The LNICST publication can be downloaded here and the PERIMETER paper is available on pages 486-495.

Perimeter at Internet 2010 and FIS 2010
The coming week is going to be a busy one for the Perimeter consortium with presentations and demonstrations at two major conferences.
Internet 2010
Perimeter will present at the Second International Conference on Evolving Internet(INTERNET 2010) in Valencia, Spain this coming week.
The presentation entitled “Providing an User Centric Always Best Connection” will be given by Martin Dobler from FHV. This is based on a paper written by Jens Schumacher, Martin Dobler, Eileen Dillon, Gemma Power, Markus Fiedler, David Erman, Karel De Vogeleer, Manuel Oritz Ramos and José Rodríguez Argente.
This paper provides an insight into how user centric seamless mobility is being achieved by PERIMETER, beginning with an explanation of QoE and the need for preferences. More details of the complete system, including QoE management, user feedback and the final delivery, are provided.
Martin will give the presentation on Thursday, September 23. He will also be chairing the “Graph Theory/Topology/Routing Internet Support II & AQM/QoS, Internet Challenges II” session on Tuesday 21 September.
FIS 2010
Meanwhile, Eileen Dillon will be presenting Perimeter at the 3rd Future Internet Symposium (FIS 2010) in Berlin. This presentation will be based on the accepted paper entitled “Experimental Testing in the Future Internet PERIMETER Project“. This paper, written by Eileen Dillon, Gemma Power and Frances Cleary Grant, provides an insight into the testing and experimental testing aspects of the PERIMETER project and the role of testbeds in this regard. This presentation will take place on Tuesday 21 September.
Later that day, during the Posters and Demonstrations session, Eileen will be demonstrating the PERIMETER project functionality using a Google Android device with the PERIMETER middleware installed. This will be illustrated with the aid of the purpose built PERIMETER Visualisation Tool.
